Brand Development
Presentation

Thank you for the opportunity to present our branding concepts for the Cape Jewish Chronicle. It's a privilege to collaborate on a project that holds such significance in the community. Today, we'll explore three creative executions that reflect the Chronicle’s dedication to fostering community strength, love, and keeping everyone informed. Each concept is designed to evoke a sense of belonging and open up new opportunities, ensuring the Cape Jewish Chronicle continues to be a cherished and essential part of our lives. Let’s dive in and explore these ideas together.

Route One

For route one, my creative thinking was to retain the familiar essence of the Cape Jewish Chronicle while modernising and refreshing its appearance. We opted to remove the mountain illustration, as it felt somewhat dated and redundant given that the name already specifies the location. Instead, we replaced the "O" with a beautiful Jewish star, adding a meaningful and visually appealing element to the logo.

The colour palette we chose is both soft and vibrant, featuring unique shades of blues and yellows that evoke happiness, freshness, and positivity. This palette is distinctive to the CJC and aims to create an inviting atmosphere for readers. The overall look and feel of the brand is minimalistic, clean, and structured. We use large color blocks to highlight key news articles, paired with stunning photography to enhance the visual appeal. This approach ensures a contemporary, engaging, and aesthetically pleasing presentation for the Cape Jewish Chronicle.

Route Two

For route two, our aim was to modernise the font choice, opting for an elegant and simple light typeface. The bold 'O' in 'Chronicle' is a deliberate choice, symbolising community, contentment, and completeness. This 'O' also connects deeply with the Jewish community, representing unity and the strength of communal bonds. By occasionally bolding the 'N' next to the 'O,' we cleverly convey the word "ON," suggesting being on top of news and the world, evoking a sense of empowerment and positivity.

The 'O' circle is a versatile element in the branding, creating a beautiful holding shape and pattern in the background, adding a cohesive visual theme. This approach results in a look and feel that is both colorful and highly creative, ensuring the Cape Jewish Chronicle stands out with a vibrant and contemporary identity that resonates deeply with its readers.

Route Three

With route three, we aimed to push the design boundaries by choosing an elegant, modern, and contemporary font. This condensed typeface with rounded corners is timeless and conveys a sense of friendliness, as if saying "we know this person."

We replaced the dot on the 'I' in 'Chronicle' with a Jewish star to honour the significance of the Jewish reader or community member, emphasising their importance to us. The branding is complemented by a shape inspired by a speech bubble, symbolising the news aspect of the business. This shape is both friendly and reflective of the font, serving as a versatile and recognisable element for holding information and enhancing layouts.

The overall look and feel of this route is colourful and vibrant, with a contemporary pastel palette that adds a fresh and dynamic touch to the Cape Jewish Chronicle’s identity.

Thank You
